Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) is an emissions control liquid required by modern diesel engines with Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology. It is a non-hazardous solution of 32.5% urea in 67.5% deionized water.
DEF is used with SCR technology to remove harmful Nitrogen Oxide emissions from diesel engines. DEF is injected into the exhaust stream; it is never added to diesel fuel.
Petro-Pass offers the leading brand of high quality DEF, Air1®, which is certified by the API™ to meet ISO 22241 standards for optimal engine performance.
A. DEF consumption will be approximately 2% of the diesel fuel consumed. Another way to consider it is that DEF will be consumed on a 50 to 1 ratio with diesel. (For every 50 gallons of diesel fuel burned, you will use 1 gallon of DEF).
Are there any storage considerations/limitations for DEF2 Yes, since DEF can degrade over long periods of time (>1 year), and at temperatures over 32°C, long term storage should be limited, if possible. Product should be stored in temperatures between -11° C and 30°C.
