Propane Safety Guidelines
If you suspect a propane gas leak, follow these safety steps:
- Remove or extinguish potential sources of ignition, such as matches, candles, cigarettes, and electrical appliances.
- Open all doors and windows to ventilate the area.
- Close all propane cylinder or tank supply valves and turn off all gas appliances.
- Evacuate everyone from the building immediately.
- Call your propane supplier or dial 911 from a safe location.
- Do not re-enter the area until it has been checked and verified as safe by a qualified propane service technician or emergency responder.
- After the area is deemed safe, a qualified technician must repair the leak, turn on the propane, and inspect all propane appliances.
